Regina Nakalyango is a newly elected district Councilor in Rakai District. She represents the sub counties of Lwankoni and Kabira to Rakai District Council. As a first timer, she faced challenges of limited resources especially money and the fear of not being well known in Lwankoni Sub County since she is a resident of Kabira.
“The training I attended organised by ACFODE and the Women’s Democracy Group (WDG) was very instrumental in my success”, revealed Nakalyango. “Utilising the knowledge and skills in resource mobilisation, campaign strategy and public speaking and presentation, I constituted a team of four (4) as my closest allies” continued Nakalyango.
This team mobilised resources for her candidacy while spreading word in the two sub counties of her potential and competences. “In Lwakoni where I am not a resident, they personally introduced me to the constituents” –Regina Nakalyango.

Prima Ndeka the Mayor Rakai Town council, was among the over 50 aspirants who participated in the training organised by ACFODE in Rakai district. An incumbent, on the independent ticket, she revealed it was not meant to be a smooth sailing having lost in the party primaries due to irregularities and malpractices.
“Without party support, I relied on the extensive support of my family and a good track record. Living positively with HIV/AIDS for over 8 years has not deterred the commitment and resolve I have to serve my people” noted Prima Ndeka.
Upon her win, she called ACFODE to express her gratitude for the skills and knowledge imparted to her during the two days trainings and the airtime paid for at Suubi Radio where she held a talk show days towards her election. “I applied all the skills given to me and this enabled me win, thank you” – Prima Ndeka.
