My name is Bizere Alice a CODERASH committee (combating defilement, rape and sexual harassment) member and model couple in ACFODE’s project on “Promoting positive socio-cultural practices in rural areas of Kisoro. I live in Kirundo Sub-County in Kisoro District. Under ACFODE, i have been able to reflect on my role as a mother and wife in a home.

I used to think that in any case of violence in a home I should go back to my parents’ home and abandon my family. The sensitization activities of ACFODE and the trainings helped me to become an agent of change in my community who knows when to refer or reconcile a case.  It made me sit back and reflect on my life since I was encouraged to live an exemplary life. ACFODE’s project enabled me to know the right steps to take for having a stable family and more so the importance of taking care of a girl child .

Through ACFODE my family has developed a saving culture, learning from the Economic Empowerment Training by ACFODE and the Diocese of Muhabura under the community owned microfinance (COM) project. For example we now save twenty thousand shillings (20,000/=) every month among us the model couples in Rubuguri Parish and this has enabled us to buy  sheep for each couple whenever enough money is saved. This will continue until each couple benefits from the savings  group.

Special thanks to ACFODE. We now live as a very happy family!
